Sensors and instrumentation is a highly competitive market, with many companies striving for increased market share on the basis of cost and technology differentiation. The sector is increasingly important to Sagentia as it continues to strengthen our capabilities and extend an already impressive track record in this area.
Our multi-disciplinary team approach to technology development spans a wide range of applications and skill sets. These include numerical and analytical modelling, sensor physics (embracing optical, magnetic, acoustic, thermal and capacitive sensors), algorithm development, DSP, electronic hardware and firmware, design for manufacture, and assembly and test. We have a particular strength in non-contact position sensing, having invented several technologies which are now available for high volume applications in sectors such as automotive, white goods and toys.
Drawing on our multi-sector experience, we are also able to challenge the usual conventions associated with product design and manufacture, and by doing so we can significantly increase margins whilst often adding new levels of functionality. We have developed a proven methodology that considers all aspects of product design from component selection and manufacture, sub-assembly and assembly methods, to test and packaging.
The proliferation of new sensor networks and wireless communications standards is widespread and confusing. We can cut through this maze and advise on the most appropriate choice of system. Our experience includes wired and wireless system design, including implementation of seven layer OSI protocol stacks and lower level systems such as CAN. We can also deliver wireless mesh network solutions based on 802.11 andĀ ZigBee together with a number of proprietary private network solutions.
